Tyler Walker, aged 22, is a South African born photographer now based in Cape Town. Tyler has been shooting professionally for just over four years and has worked in a range of photographic fields. He has traveled to a couple corners of the globe shooting a range of stuff from Hawaii, U.S, Ireland, in and around Africa as seen in the images above. He is best known for his surf images but it is the photojournalistic element that gives his work a signature style.
“My goal in every shot is to produce simplistic yet authentic imagery. I strive to capture the unseen as I believe that life is missed when we do not take notice of the small details. I believe less is more and that this perspective is especially true in the intricate world of photography.”He can be found in or around the ocean on most days, just look for the red head with a camera.
We asked Tyler how it all started and how he got to the level he is at today:
“I started shooting in 2011/2012 when I was still in school. I was fortunate enough to get the opportunity to go to a school where we had access to some of the best photographic equipment on the market. I swam and played water polo nationally and provincially so I would take gear to these events and shoot. Myself and my art teacher realized I had an eye for the lens and I started using my contacts shooting people. things and places I love.
I moved from Durban to Cape Town in 2014 to try kickstart my career into gear and be exposed to an amazing culture of creativity. Since then I have been dialing into the surf, fashion and corporate industry mostly. It has been super challenging with how saturated the industry of creatives is down here but at the same time incredibly fun to be a part of it with growth on a daily basis.
2017 is going to be a good year with a lot more traveling and fun things planned so stay tuned…”
